Dr. Sims is the first female President of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School (CRCDS) and the first President to lead CRCDS at its new location in Rochester, NY.
She is the author and co-author of several books and is the recipient of an array of grants and fellowships. She has been featured on Religion and Ethics Newsweekly and in articles in the Dallas Morning News, the Baptist Standard and the New York Times. Prior to pursuing her theological work, Dr. Sims served in the business field–skills that have proven essential in her administrative work.
Dr. Sims comes to CRCDS from Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas and Oklahoma, where she served as the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Robert B. and Kathleen Rogers Professor in Church and Society and as a Professor of Ethics and Black Church Studies.
A renowned Womanist scholar, and a member of the National Baptist denomination, Dr. Sims’ research and writing examines connections between faith, race, and violence with specific attention to historical and contemporary implications of lynching and a culture of lynching in the United States.
Dr. Sims’s vision for CRCDS is to strengthen existing degree programs while expanding degree and course offerings to meet the needs of the 21st century church. Dr. Sims will focus on growing enrollment by increasing financial aid, broadening CRCDS’ offerings and expanding distance learning to create greater access. Dr. Sims will also focus on growing philanthropic support while deepening and extending the relationship between CRCDS and the communities it serves
