Trained as a minister, Brenda Lane Richardson is a journalist, active public speaker, and the author of Story Power, The Language of Fertility, and Chesapeake Song. She has written a column for the Oakland Tribune, and her work has appeared in Essence, Glamour, Ms., and the New York Times Magazine. Richardson is an award-winning author. Her novel, Chesapeake Song garnered the 1993 Pen-Oakland Award and Richardson was named 1994 Author of the Year from the Go On Girl!, a national African-American book club. The novel was a Literary Guild selection. Her non-fiction title, 101 Ways to Help Your Daughter Love Her Body, co-written with Elane Rehr was selected by Amazon.com as one of the year’s best parenting books. The book has been translated into eleven languages, and was the subject of a two-page article in People, and featured on NBC’s “Today.”
