olette Barris, the author of the Claretta Street trilogy grew up in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California, where she is active in education and community activism. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California.
Ms. Barris’s ancestral literary voice of the African American journey is bold and informative-something missing today. Colette is the sister of Emmy and Peabody “black-ish” creator Kenya Barris.
