Dr. Yohannes Gebremedhin is a development professional and senior international legal consultant who has managed and implemented technical assistance projects in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East for over twenty years.
He has lived and worked in Liberia, Tanzania, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Lesotho, Palestine, Pakistan, Yemen, Eritrea and Ethiopia. Dr. Gebremedhin has extensive experience in governance and the rule of law, formulation of land policy, land governance, legislative development, repatriation and reintegration of refugees, demobilization of ex-combatants and development banking. He has recently worked as Project Director/Team Leader for a World Bank funded land project in Liberia. Previously, among others, he worked as Chief of Party for USAID-funded land governance projects in Tanzania and Liberia, Team Leader and Senior Legal Advisor for a European Union funded land project in Bangladesh, and a consultant to numerous international organizations and governments.
He earned his Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) and his Masters of Law (LLM) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Washington College of Law, American University respectively. He also earned a Bachelors of Law (LLB) degree from Addis Ababa University. Dr. Gebremedhin taught law at the University of Asmara and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
